Peterborough and the Kawarthas

Kawartha Waterways
One of the greatest resources in Peterborough & the Kawarthas are the magnificent waterways. Choose from one of our 134 lakes for water activity ranging from kayaking, canoeing, fishing, boating and swimming. Resorts, hotels, inns and bed & breakfasts scatter the shores of many of our lakes and rivers. Together they provide a relaxing panoramic backdrop for your vacation.

Cruise the Trent-Severn Waterway aboard one of our tour boats, rise to the top of the worlds highest hydraulic lift lock or explore the shores of Stoney Lake from a replica steamship. The puck drops on many of our smaller bodies of water as the winter brings a thick layer of ice for skating.

Travel on, or just marvel at miles of waterways and sparkling lakes...

The Great Outdoors
The picturesque surroundings of Peterborough & the Kawarthas not only offer a great backdrop for your visit but also provide a terrain that is ideal for outdoor activities. The lakes of Peterborough & the Kawarthas are home to many species of fish including walleye, carp, crappy, bass and muskie that make for exciting tournaments and great recreation. Bring your kayak or canoe with you and face a boundless number of routes passing scenic landscapes and historic sites.

The area offers great hiking, biking and canoe trails that take you through both the lakeland regions and the more urban centres of the region. When the snow falls many of these trails are transformed into cross-county ski trails that provide a tranquil environment for viewing the local wildlife. For a winter activity that the whole family can enjoy, seize a toboggan and head to one of the many local hills for a fun-filled day!

Arts, Culture & Heritage
Peterborough & the Kawarthas are alive with theatre, art galleries, festivals and heritage. The pride we take in our surroundings is seen through our local historical museums, galleries and attractions.

Throughout the year Peterborough & the Kawarthas is home to an assortment of events that bring animation to the seasons. Visitors share in our rich heritage inspired by studio tours, festivals and First Nations cultural celebrations. Musical festivities set the rhythm for high-spirited days and exciting nights.
