Peterborough Lift Locks

Board the Liftlock Cruise and enjoy the sights and sounds of our waterways and photo opportunities as you travel over the historic Lift Lock. After your cruise, take in the views and warm hospitality at the Riverside Grill & Gazebo, Holiday Inn Waterfront while enjoying delicious local cuisine choices. Be sure to have your camera in hand as you head north along picturesque Highway 28 and journey to the Lockside Trading Company for a unique shopping experience. Burleigh Falls will follow for another photo opportunity and Burliegh Island Lodge and Spa will welcome you for your evening accommodation.

Morning will bring your journey to Petroglyphs Provincial Park and Warsaw Caves, for light hiking, photo opportunities and intriguing sights.


Past Meets Present

Lang Pioneer Village

Welcome to our new Visitor Information Centre, our travel counselors will be delighted to start your journey with a warm hello and provide you with all the information you will need for your time in Peterborough & the Kawarthas. Check into the Best Western Otonabee Inn or one of our many accommodation options and enjoy lunch before heading to Lang Pioneer Village a recreated 19th century hamlet where costumed villagers of all ages demonstrate the daily life of an earlier settler. The Lang Grist Mill and Hope Mill are great photo opportunities.

Serpent Mounds Provincial Park is your next destination. This park has vast aboriginal significance and is the site of nine burial mounds. The evening brings you to Burnham Mansion, where you may receive a presentation on the history of the Burnham Family and a scrumptious dinner.

The next day leads you to the historic Peterborough Lift Lock, stop in at the Lift Lock Visitor Centre for history and information. The Peterborough Centennial Museum and Archives is next on your tour, this museum houses the second oldest collection in Ontario. For lunch, head to The Carousel Restaurant for buffetstyle dining, before visiting The Hutchison House and The Canadian Canoe Museum.

Begin your hiking excursion at Warsaw Caves, nestled in the valley of the Indian River, there are 13 km of hiking trails including caves and the Limestone Plain Trail. Petroglyphs Provincial Park is home to the largest concentration of aboriginal rock carvings in Canada and has many trails to explore. Be sure to enjoy the countryside of photo opportunities as you journey to the rejuvenating Irwin Inn for spectacular views, exceptional dining and restful accommodation.

Spend the next day discovering Wolf Island Provincial Park and Selwyn Conservation Area before heading to Chemong Lodge Steak and Seafood for a wonderful dining experience. The Village Inn in the picturesque village of Lakefield will provide accommodation for the evening.

The following day, try shopping for all your outdoor activity gear at Adventure Outfitters. Prepare for another day of hiking under the skies of the Kawarthas at your choice of trails within the City of Peterborough, Millbrook Valley Trails or the Trails of Lakefield, these are just samples of the trail options in our region.
